The NorthLink Ferries History
The Northlink Ferries are approaching an exciting
new phase in transportation to Orkney and Shetland from Scotland
started in 2002 when NorthLink Ferries launched its cruise-standard
ferry service.

NorthLink Ferries Passenger Information
NorthLink Cinema
On longer routes NorthLink ships have modern cinemas showing the
latest films. Tickets for the cinema can be purchased in advance,
from the Monday before sailing. Tickets can also be purchased
at the onboard shop.
Children
NorthLink ferries are equipped to the best standards to give all
their passengers a safe, comfortable journey.
Play Area
A child’s play area is provided for their younger passengers.
There are toys, chairs and tables, games and a television showing
cartoons or other children’s programming. Parents
note that although this is a safe environment it is not supervised
and children on board will remain your responsibility.
NorthLink Accommodation
Premium Cabins
In 2004 NorthLink introduced Premium Cabins on the Aberdeen-Kirkwall-Lerwick
routes. These cabins are outside two berth cabins equipped with
a TV/DVD, hot drink making facilities, a box of chocolates, mineral
water and a newspaper.
Outer Twin Cabins
NorthLink Outer Twin Cabins have two single beds and ensuite shower
and toilet. They have a window and there are points for equipment
such as computers and phone chargers. There is a shaver socket
and an hairdryer in the bathroom. There is a telephone to contact
Reception for information and assistance.
NorthLink Inner Four Berth Cabins
Inner Four Berth Cabins are equipped with two single beds at knee
height as well as two fold down beds at shoulder height. There
are power points for equipment such as computers and phone chargers.
There is a shaver socket and a hairdryer in the bathroom. There
is a telephone to contact the Reception for information and assistance.
NorthLink Disabled Cabins
On the NorthLink Aberdeen-Kirkwall-Lerwick routes there are four
cabins per ship designed for disabled users. Two of these cabins
are designed to ease of access whilst the other two cabins are
fitted with lifting equipment. The cabins without lifting equipment
have a drop-down berth available for a carer. The disabled cabins
are also fitted with a television. On the Pentland Firth route
there are two cabins designed for disabled users.
NorthLink Reclining Seats
The Aberdeen-Kirkwall-Lerwick routes, Reclining Seats are available
free of charge. These seats are very similar to aircraft seats
in design and can be booked in advance.
